CAMBER
Bow in sheet. Measured by placing a straight edge along the
concave side of the sheet parallel to LWD, touching both ends of
the sheet. The maximum distance between the edge of the
expanded metal mesh and the straight edge is the camber.
TOLERANCE
Standard expanded metal 1/16" per foot of length
Flattened expanded metal 3/32" per foot of length
OUT OF SQUARE
Expanded metal mesh sheets are not perfectly square as manufactured.
Stock size sheets and machine run non-standard size sheets
will be produced to the following tolerances.
TOLERANCE
SWD: 1/16" per foot of width
LWD: 1/16" per foot of length
Sheet must be re-squared by shearing on all sides for
squareness.

NON-STANDARD SIZES
MACHINE RUN
When tolerances permit, Niles can machine run
non-standard sheet sizes to the same tolerances as
stock size sheets. Unless otherwise specified, the
material will be produced to a plus (+) tolerance;
however the material can be produced to a minus (-)
tolerance if requested.
RANDOM SHEARING
Stock size sheets and special sizes should be
random sheared when a closer tolerance is desired.
Normal mill tolerance for standard and flattened
expanded metal is plus (+) or minus (-) 1/16"; for our
grating products, plus (+) or minus (-) 1/8". Material
that is random sheared leaves open diamonds in
most cases.
BOND SHEARING
When certain applications require closed diamonds
and the quantities do not economically justify
special mill runs, bond shearing can sometimes be
performed, WITHIN LIMITATIONS, resulting in
closed diamond edges. Because of the diamond
design and angle, standard expanded metal mesh should
not be bond sheared SWD and must be machine
run to size.
